The Club is sad to report that Gail Marshall sadly slipped away early on Tuesday, 13 February. We knew this day would come, as she fought a long but determined battle with cancer.
You will have seen on her Facebook page how much she was loved and respected within the worldwide Skye Community. People who may never have met her but valued the Glorfindel breeding on their canine pedigrees. She was a talented breeder not only knowing what she wanted to produce but also having the knowledge of what breeding was right to bring in to do so. Looking back, and hopefully we haven’t miscalculated; her kennel produced or housed a total of 22 UK Champions; 1 UK & IR Champion and 2 Irish Champions. This does not include others who won tickets and reserve tickets or those who enjoyed success in other countries.
She also gave readily of her time serving on the Skye Terrier Club Committee for many years and latterly as Chair. She was also Secretary of the Scottish Branch for a lengthy period up to last year. She served on the Skye Terrier Health Committee and was passionate about the future viability of the breed. She enjoyed judging the breed not only in this country but also Breed Club Specialties in Finland and Montgomery America.
She was certainly a talented artist. For those of us fortunate to have received those treasured pictures we have a lasting gift from her. For several years she always lamented she had left it too late to create her own Christmas cards, so it was a lovely surprise for those who received a very special Christmas card recently which carried one of her illustrations. Her talents were not limited to just dogs and her works included birds, fish and flowers which went on to be sold through galleries.
For the people whose lives she touched it will certainly be a quieter place. To Rob, Jo, Lee and her sister Sharon our sincere sympathies for they have lost so much more.
Her funeral was to have been held on 1 March however due to the adverse weather conditions this has now been postponed. Once details are available an update will be posted.
